This country club, ideally located on the Garden Route, is perfect for a relaxing game of golf after a day at the beach. Although, it is merely a little seaside golf course – it can be quite a challenge! It is a magnificent 18-hole layout in the most beautiful of settings. All greens and bunkers are to USGA specifications.
Upgraded by Rob O’Friell, in 2000, the 18 superb, Bent-Grass greens have been built to USGA specifications. Their new shapes and slopes plus the new bunkers and water features have created a challenging yet beautiful course. The pleasant layout winds through thick vegetation with beautiful trees. An extensive upgrading project has enhanced the course's reputation. Set in a nature reserve, with magnificent views and prolific bird life, there are no distractions.
The 470 meter par-five 4th hole plays particularly long in a southeaster when the average golfer will have little chance of reaching the water-guarded green in 2, and sometimes even in 3. By contrast the 11th is only 110 meters long - one of the shortest par-threes in the country.
The 300 meter par-four 14th is a sharp dogleg-left which features two tall oak trees which are on the left-hand side of the faiway just after the hole curves towards the green. The foliage makes the drive an exacting one. One option is to hit the ball onto the extreme right of the fairway, which is really the only route if the trees are to be avoided. The other option is to lay up and be well short of the oaks after the tee shot, allowing for a high approach over the tops of the trees, but this always remains a risky option.
Unique features include playing the first stroke over the railway line, a double green (1400 square meters), shared by the 2nd and 5th holes, crossing the Bushman's River and New Year's River on various holes.
The town of Plettenberg Bay (known as Plett) is situated on the Southern Tip of the African coast and is located in one of the most popular tourist attractions known as the Garden Route. It is 240 km to the West of the city Port Elizabeth and 110 to the East of the large town, George.
