In the mountains above the historic mining town of Pilgrims Rest, on a ridge in the mountains, is the fine country hotel: Mount Sheba. Set in a pristine natural forest, the views from every room are breathtaking. It can, and does, get very cold up there during the winter nights. To combat this, each room has its own fireplace to comfort you on such nights.
There are a number of activities to entertain you. A walk in the forest is sure to sharpen your senses to small animal activity, while spotting an oribi or duiker (two small antelope species) would be a highlight. In the vicinity, one would also come across the Blyde River Canyon, home to the Three Rondawels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. There is a mountain bike trail sure to test your limits. With the wide variety of birds that occur in this wonderful mountain retreat, birding is another popular pastime.
All of the 25 rooms have their own private patios, with views stretching across the indigenous forest on the slopes of the surrounding mountains. The rooms, on average, feature added luxuries like selected satellite television stations, toiletries, room safes and hair driers, to name but a few.
Dinner is sure to be a special occasion, with a five-course set menu. Wine is served from the wine list, adding to the atmosphere of total tranquility.
